I have been a member of Lichfield Society of Artists off and on for about twenty years and have been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember.
I’ve always been interested in animals, which I used to draw endlessly as a child, and this lead me into mainly doing wildlife pictures and portraits of dogs, cats, or whatever creatures I was asked to do, including once a budgie. In more recent years I have done more portraits of people, many of them linked with my other major interest, Irish traditional music, (I’m of Irish decent on my mother’s side). I work mainly in pencil or watercolour but I also have an interest in pastels, acrylics and printmaking.
I hope that my musical pictures, especially the pastels, capture something of the movement and atmosphere of the subject matter. I mainly do commissions which are of necessity ‘photographic’ and these generally take up that half of the week when I’m not being a primary school teacher.
I have held exhibitions and trade stands in Ireland and this country and have had my work used for several album covers. Most of my work is available as cards or prints.
I am also a member of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, (the Irish musicians Society) a member of a ceili band and play regularly in local sessions.
